Self Care Tips for Winter – Part #1

Winter is here and with it comes busier schedules, colder weather, and shorter days. In the blink of an eye, the holidays will be here, and we’ll be wrapping up another year. Winter is a natural time for reflection and gratitude and it provides some special opportunities to practice self care in order to help our mental and physical well-being.

#1 SAVOUR A WARM DRINK

There’s nothing more heartwarming than a big mug of cosiness in your hands after a long stressful day. It’s TLC at your fingertips! Soothing, refreshing and hydrating a big mug of what you fancy is just what your body is craving. Enjoy and let yourself indulge in each sip – let your body unwind and let the worries of today fade away.

#2 KEEP A GRATITUDE JOURNAL

Increasingly popular, gratitude journals are being used all around the world. They’re a fantastic way to shift your mood from feeling disheartened by life to feeling the upmost appreciation for even the smallest of things. Gratitude journals are a great way to help you become more self aware and help you to reflect on all your blessings, strengths and accomplishments. Spending at least 5-10 minutes a day journaling is said to be of benefit to your physical and mental well-being. A great way to focus on the positives!

#3 TAKE A RELAXING BATH

Is there anything better than jumping into a hot bath at the end of a long and tiring day? Your troubles just float away amongst the bubbles and you reap the rewards of feeling rejuvenated from head to toe. Add in some essential oils, bubble bath or bath bombs and let the scents calm your mind. Another good idea is to add in some Epsome bath salts for the days that your muscles need that extra bit of TLC. To create the ultimate ambience light a candle or two!

#4 TAKE A WINTER WALK

Winter is such a magical time of year for relaxing and spending time with our loved ones. Having cosy nights are great but having a walk in the great outdoors has so many benefits. Wrapping up and heading outside yourself or with family and friends is a fantastic way to clear your head and at the same time benefits your physical well-being and keeps your cardiovascular system and your mood boosting Vitamin D levels happy. Winter walks are even better when it is snowing, the beautiful scenery that can be found is truly picturesque. There’s so much to see on your travels from beautiful pine trees, frost jewelled icicles, twinkling lights and maybe you might even be lucky enough to see a robin.

#5 READ A GOOD BOOK

Taking yourself away and escaping from the world for a couple of hours maybe what you need to help you unwind and distract yourself from the daily stressors of life. Whether you pick up an old favourite or a new book in your to be read pile, it will surely transport you. Reading is a valuable self care resource and has many different benefits such as: helps with memory improvement, improves focus and concentration, stress reduction, provides mental stimulation and it has also said to help you improve your skills in being empathetic to other people in our lives. Creating a reading nook today is a sure way to help you relax!

#6 MOVIE NIGHT

Popcorn at the ready! From Rom Com to Psychological thriller there is something for everyone. Kick your feet up on the sofa and relax the night away with giggles or fright night screams and feel those feel good hormones release.
